I brought my sprinter in for a transmission service, which was quoted out 250$ higher than the dealer for the identical service. Moreover, the mechanic said that he was unable to work on the van unless the driver side window switch was repaired due to 'liability', diagnostic starting at several hundred dollars which did not go towards the repair. Keep in mind that the driver door opens, and the passenger window works as well, for all talking-to-coworker needs, driving it all of 20ft into the lift. This broken window has never been an issue anywhere else. Most damning, as other commenters have said, they worked up a list of many other issues, some legitimate, but others that really didn't make sense to have on there, I.e. things that I recently fixed. When I pressed about some of these issues, the response was "We all have to eat." Not my lunch! And hopefully not yours either. Beware of taking your car to The Shop.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your concerns and take all reviews seriously as we aim to provide transparent, reliable service. Unfortunately in your case an operable driver side window is a prerequisite for service at our shop. You can understand that driving a large vehicle inside of a building with very expensive equipment and vehicles in close proximity represents a significant liability. Our shop is in fact 120 feet deep and it can be tricky to get into the bays when there are up to 15 other vehicles being serviced simultaneously. To address this we have developed a number of procedures that are designed to prevent damage to vehicles and harm to our employees. I'm sorry if you don't agree with our emphasis on safety, but it is our policy nonetheless. This was explained to you in person very politely. To clarify, the response "we all have to eat" was in regard to your insistence that we perform services on your van for free. We indeed do have bills to pay here and we absolutely do not work for free.
